Public places safer - IGP

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 18 (Bernama) -- Public places are now safer and the security situation will be maintained in efforts to reduce crimes, said Inspector-General of Police Ismail Omar.

Expressing his satisfaction on the safety of public places such as shopping complexes, he said the safe environment was felt by traders and tourists.

"Traders, revellers and tourists used to worry on the security situation. Now the level of safety is better and they have expressed their satisfaction with what we are doing," he told reporters after a walkabout in the Bukit Bintang commercial area here Thursday.

Ismail said the walkabout was featured in the police high-profile programme and was one of the initiatives under the National Key Result Areas which aimed at reducing crimes, particularly street crimes.

"I will go on another walkabout in Selangor Friday and followed by other states later," he said.

He said under the high performance programme, senior police officers and their men were required carry out surveys and meet the public.
