Embassy Monitoring Situation In Bahrain

DUBAI (Bernama) - Malaysian nationals in crisis-hit Bahrain have
been urged to contact the embassy in Manama, should they encounter problems so
that immediate action could be taken to address them.

In an e-mail to Malaysians working and residing in this Gulf island nation
east of Saudi Arabia, the mission also advised them to keep all communication
lines open to enable their family and relatives to contact them.

"The embassy is in direct contact with the Bahraini authorities to get the
latest information on developments in Bahrain," according to the e-mail note.

The mission noted that much of the information on what was happening in
Bahrain was accessible on social networking websites like Facebook and Twitter.

"In this connection, the embassy would like to suggest that any postings
you make on such websites should be based on objective information rather than
heresay, to keep family members back home from getting worried," it said.

Bahrain's capital, Manama, has been rocked by anti-government protests
amidst reports that five people were killed after the army moved in to control
the situation.

The Malaysian community here was reminded to update their particulars with
the embassy for easy communication during any emergency situation.

The embassy had also held discussions with members of the Malaysia Club
Bahrain.

The e-mail stated a need to appoint a representative in each of the areas
where Malaysians lived to help the embassy monitor the situation at the local
level, and assist coordination efforts between the embassy and Malaysian
nationals in the Gulf nation.
