KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 19 (Bernama) -- Prime Minister Najib Razak will make his maiden three-day official visit to Turkey, beginning Monday, to strengthen bilateral ties.
A Wisma Putra (Foreign Ministry) statement said Friday the visit would take place in both Ankara and Istanbul. Najib would be accompanied by his wife, Rosmah Mansor.
In Ankara, Najib will attend a private meeting with his counterpart, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, as well as a meeting involving Malaysian and Turkish delegations.
"He is scheduled to witness a MoU (memorandum of understanding) signing between SME Corp Malaysia and Small and Medium Enterprise Development Organisation (KOGSEB) and an agreement between DRB-Hicom Defence Technologies Sdn Bhd and FNSS Savunma Sistemleri which is a company from Turkey," the statement said.
Meanwhile in Istanbul, Najib will call on Turkish President Abdullah Gul and is also scheduled to participate in the Malaysia-Turkey business roundtable talk, organised by Institute of Strategic and International Studies (ISIS) and International Movement for a Just World (JUST).
Malaysia and Turkey enjoy warm and friendly relations. Total trade figures with the country stood at RM2.5 billion last year, as compared to RM2 billion in 2009.
Several cabinet ministers, members of parliament and senior government officials would also accompany Najib throughout the visit, the statement said.
