DEFENCE MINISTER LEADS MALAYSIAN DELEGATION AT IDEX 2011

ABU DHABI, Feb 21 (Bernama) -- Defence Minister Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi is leading the Malaysian delegation at the International Defence Exhibition and Conference (IDEX) 2011 which opened here Sunday.
Nine defence and security-related Malaysian entities are taking part in the event at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre, under the patronage of United Arab Emirates (UAE) President Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
They are Airod Sdn Bhd, Airod Techno Power Sdn Bhd, Aerospace Technology Systems Corp. Sdn Bhd, SME Ordnance Sdn Bhd, SME Aerospace Sdn Bhd, DSA Exhibition and Conference Sdn Bhd, Weststar LDV Sdn Bhd and Malaysian Defence and Security Technology Park.
They are joined at the five-day show by the Malaysian Industry Council for Defence, Enforcement and Security (MIDES).
Dr Ahmad Zahid is expected to meet a number of key figures at the event which has attracted over 900 defence exhibitors from 50 countries.
In remarks published ahead of IDEX 2011 opening, Sheikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, said: "We in the UAE don't look at IDEX or Dubai Airshow as two platforms for arms race in the region, as some claim.
"But (we) see them purely in terms of trade, tourism and technology, because of the diversity in attendance and participation in these events, which have gained international fame and earned great confidence among the exhibitors and consumers."
This, he said, made the UAE a meeting place for people of different races and a gateway between East and West.
Such shows also allowed members of the UAE armed forces and police force to gain experience and knowledge through interaction with experts from all over the world, he added.
