Education Minister : Day of Scientific Excellence Important for Shaping Future
Doha, February 20 (QNA) - Under the patronage of HH the Heir Apparent Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, who is also Chairman of the Supreme Education Council (SEC), Qatar celebrates the Day of Scientific Excellence for the academic year 2009/2010, on March 7, at the Sheraton Hotel.
During the ceremony outstanding graduates from high school and university graduates and PhDs and teacher excellence will be honoured.
HE the Minister of Education and Higher Education and Secretary General of the Supreme Education Council Saad bin Ibrahim Al Mahmoud, who is also Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Scientific Excellence Award has approved the names of the winners of this award.
In a press statement on this occasion, HE the Minister said the Scientific Excellence Day underlines the importance of education and its role in shaping the future in the State of Qatar.
Addressing the winners, HE the Minister said: "I appreciate your tireless and commendable efforts to achieve excellence in the scientific field, and I wish you every success in your future, whether in school or in the fields of work."
For her part, Dr. Hamdah Al Sulaiti, Director of the Evaluation Institute, and Chairperson of the Organizing Committee of the Award said that the Committee had received 80 applications to run in the competition for awards on scientific excellence.
She emphasized that the criteria for granting awards is high, accurate, specific and universal, noting that special committees were named for each branch of the prize including a selection of educators and experts from the Supreme Education Council , Qatar University, Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development (QF), to select the winners according to the award criteria.
The Award of Scientific Excellence in Science under the auspices of HH the Heir Apparent, is considered as the highest Academy honour to be offered to outstanding individuals and educational institutions in Qatar. It is also an emphasis on attention of the wise leadership and its commitment to encourage and honor the scientifically distinguished and outstanding Qataris. (QNA)
