TIGER AIRWAYS WANTS TO OPERATE FLIGHTS OVERSEAS
By Neville D'Cruz
MELBOURNE, Feb 21 (Bernama) -– Singapore-owned Tiger Airways hopes to
overcome Australian air navigation laws to operate flights overseas.
Company chief Tony Davis wants to establish a wholly Australia-owned
business to operate commercial flights beyond Singapore, the Herald Sun
newspaper reported.
The newspaper was told that Davis discussed the proposal with interested
parties during a recent visit to Melbourne.
Vanessa Regan, a spokeswoman for Tiger Airways, said the airline was
"willing and able to fly internationally if and when we get approval to do so."
One route the airline would like to operate would be between Australia and
New Zealand.
Tiger Airways, listed on the Singapore Stock Exchange, is regarded under
Australian air transport rules as a foreign-owned company.
It can operate a domestic air service but not venture beyond local air
space.
