CEBU PACIFIC EXPECTS 40 PCT INCREASE IN SEAT CAPACITY THIS YEAR
KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 21 (Bernama) -- Philippine national flag carrier, Cebu Pacific, which registered 61 per cent growth on flights between Kuala Lumpur (KL) and Manila last year, expects a 40 per cent increase in seat capacity this year.
On Dec 16, 2010 the airline added three weekly midday flights to its daily Airbus service from KL to Manila, making it a 10-time weekly service.
Its destinations in Malaysia are Kuala Lumpur and Kota Kinabalu, the capital of the east Malaysian state of Sabah.
The airline also flies from Kota Kinabalu to Manila thrice weekly.
Last year, Cebu Pacific's passengers to and from Kuala Lumpur grew by 65 per cent to 119,094 while those to and from Kota Kinabalu grew by 43 per cent to 27,632.
Its vice president for marketing and distribution, Candice Iyog, said with the increase in frequencies to Malaysia and the airline's low fares, passengers would have more opportunities to travel to Manila and 32 other domestic destinations.
"They can also connect from Manila to key north Asian cities of Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Osaka, Hong Kong, Seoul and Busan," she said.
Cebu Pacific flies the most extensive route network within the Philippines and to Asean region, with destinations such as Boracay (Caticlan), Coron (Busuanga), Cebu, Siargao, Jakarta, Bangkok and Ho Chi Minh.
Meanwhile, senior general manager of operations services, Malaysia Airports, Azmi Murad, said Cebu Pacific's move to increase its frequencies to Kuala Lumpur and Kota Kinabalu indicated the growing demand and interest in low-cost air travel between Malaysia and the Philippines.
"We are confident the airline will continue to enjoy positive growth for their operations to Kuala Lumpur, as both Manila and KL offer interesting places to visit besides enjoying strong bilateral trade," he said.
