DON'T FORGET DEED OF PAST LEADERS - MINISTER
JASIN (Melaka, Malaysia), Feb 22 (Bernama) -- The people have been reminded not to forget deeds of past leaders whose contributions made the country what it is today.
Information Communication and Culture Minister Dr Rais Yatim said the progress is the result of their struggle since independence.
"Malacca was built through contributions of state and federal leaders," he told reporters after opening the 'Merakyatkan Seni dan Budaya 1Malaysia' programme and Kenduri Asam Pedas (the southern state of Melaka's famous dish of fish in chilli grave) in Kampung Pengkalan Samak, Merlimau Monday night.
Dr Rais said the struggle contained pure values to champion the people irrespective of race and religion.
"This is non-existent among the opposition as they only want to seize power and not interested in servicing the people."
The minister reminded the people not to replace the government for the sake of future generations.
"We have to think hard before making a change. We are not like Middle East countries and have championed the people."
Merlimau fell vacant with the death of Mohamad Hidhir Abu Hassan of ruling Barisan Nasional (BN) on Jan 20 while Kerdau following the death of Zaharuddin Abu Kassim of BN on Feb 12.
Nomination was fixed for Feb 26 with polling on March 6.
