Malaysian genomics resource to collaborate with UK's John Innes centre
KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 23 (Bernama) -- Malaysian Genomics Resource Centre Bhd (MGRC) has signed a collaboration agreement with John Innes Enterprises Ltd, the trading unit of John Innes Centre, United Kingdom (JIC), to carry out fundamental and strategic research on plants and microbes.
In a filing to Bursa Malaysia (Malaysia's stock exchange), it said the collaboration would provide direct access for scientists from Malaysian universities and organisations to work together with JIC and MGRC in the field of functional genomics to help realise the potential of Malaysia's rich biodiversity.
"Many plant and microbial compounds have biological activities that could be used in the discovery and development of pharmaceuticals, novel foods and as active ingredients for industry biotechnology," it said.
