UNBIASED NEWS REPORTS ENABLE PEOPLE TO GAUGE REAL SITUATION, SAYS DR CHAN

KUCHING (Sarawak, Malaysia), Feb 24 (Bernama) -- News coverages of both the government and opposition ahead of the coming Sarawak state election must be accurate and unbiased to enable the people to gauge the real situation, said Deputy Chief Minister Dr George Chan.
He said it was important for the local media fraternity in Sarawak to give factual reporting rather than false or biased ones in order to be fair to the people, who wanted to know exactly what was happening.
"It is not about which side you (reporters) are on. It is about your professionalism and I am very proud to say that 99 percent of you have so far done fair reporting," he said at the Kuching Division Journalists Association's (KDJA) 38th anniversary dinner, themed "Cute and Lovely", here Wednesday night.
He was happy to note that the 300-strong member KDJA had continued to upgrade the professionalism of its members through the holding of seminars and courses with the relevant departments and agencies.
Earlier KDJA chairperson Alice Wee also reminded her fellow journalists to be impartial in their reporting, especially with the state polls around the corner, and to keep recordings of their interviews and speeches for future references.
