SINGAPORE CLOSELY MONITORS CITIZENS IN LIBYA, SAYS MFA SPOKESMAN
SINGAPORE, Feb 26 (Bernama) -- Singapore is closely monitoring its citizens in Libya, following the ongoing protest in the North African country, its ministry of foreign afairs (MFA) said Saturday.
"We have been closely monitoring the situation in Libya. From the onset, the safety and well-being of Singaporeans have been our paramount concern.
"Our embassy in Cairo has kept constant contact with the Singaporeans in Tripoli, as well as worked to secure their safe departure.
"All 10 Singaporeans who were in Libya, have left Tripoli," a ministry spokesman said in a statement which was in response to media queries on Singaporeans in Libya.
Of the 10 Singaporeans, seven are staff of Boustead Singapore Ltd which also has 15 other staff who are Asean nationals, in Libya.
"We worked closely with Boustead to evacuate its 22 staff who left Libya on Feb 23, this year. The remaining Singaporean left Tripoli and arrived safely in Cairo on Feb 25," said the spokesman.
Meanwhile, the ministry reiterated its advice that Singaporeans should defer all travel to Libya for the time being.
Should they (Singaporeans) require consular assistance, they should contact the Embassy of the Republic of Singapore at the address below:
