QEWC And Kahramaa Renew MoU with Chubu

Doha, February 27 (QNA) - Qatar Electricity & Water Company (QEWC) and Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa) Sunday renewed the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Japanese company Chubu Electric Power.
The MoU was renewed in the presence and patronage of HE Minister of Energy and Industry Dr. Mohamed bin Saleh Al Sada and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Chubu Electric Power Company Toshio Mita.
This renewal is for joint cooperation and exchange of knowledge and experience between the parties. The MoU updates the tripartite MoU signed by QEWC, Kahramaa and Chubu four years ago, officials said today.
QEWC's General Manager Fahad Hamad Al Mohannadi, President of Qatar General Electricity & Water Corporation, Essa Hilal Al Kuwari and Chubu Electric Power President Akishia Mizuno signed the MoU renewal on behalf of their respective organisations.
The original MoU, signed in February 2007, agreed on exchanging experiences, organising workshops, lectures and short courses in Japan and Qatar with the objective of improving performance in power plants and electricity distribution networks.
Much work has been done during the four-year term of the agreement. The signatories exchanged visits and a study on the level of gas emissions from power plants in Qatar was done. The efficiencies of these plants were improved and made consistent with the environmental norms.
The agreement is significant for QEWC's expansion plans since Chubu is one of the world leaders in building, developing and operating power plants.
QEWC expanded substantially over the last two decades. The utilities provider has built, owned and is operating power and desalination stations like Ras Abu Fontas (A, Al, B, Bi, B2), Wajbah, Saliyah, Doha South and Dukhan stations as well as through co-operation with global partners such as stations of Ras Laffan Power Company, Q Power, Ras Girtas Power Company and Messaid Power Company.
QEWC is presently seeking to invest in new power plants projects in the Gulf region, the Middle East, Asia and Europe.
