MALAYSIANS IN OMAN TOLD TO REMAIN VIGILANT
By Muin Abdul Majid
DUBAI, March 1 (Bernama) -- Malaysian nationals in protest-hit Oman have been urged to maintain a high level of security awareness, particularly in public places, and remain calm.
They were also advised to avoid large gatherings and demonstrations and refrain from discussing the issue in public places, according to a message from the Malaysian mission in Muscat obtained by Bernama.
The embassy requested them to inform mission staff of potential rallies in the sultanate.
"In the mean time, we request all Malaysians who have not registered with the embassy to immediately do so," said the email note.
The port city of Sohar has been hit by street demonstrations amid reports that a hypermarket there had been set ablaze.
The protesters are seeking social and political changes in the country.
