OPPOSITION FILES NO-CONFIDENCE VOTE AGAINST ABHISIT

BANGKOK, March 1 (Bernama) -– Puea Thai, an opposition party, today filed a vote of no-confidence motion against Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva and nine Cabinet members in Parliament.

Mingkwan Sangsuwan, a Puea Thai party list member of parliament (MP), filed the censure motion signed by 122 MPs, with House Speaker Chai Chidchob.

The opposition has asked for four days for censure debate and one day for voting.

The others listed to be grilled are Deputy Prime Minister Suthep Thaugsuban, seven ministers and a deputy minister.

The ministers are Korn Chatikavanij (Finance), Kasit Piromya (Foreign), Porntiva Nakasai (Commerce), Chuti Krairiksh (Information and Communication Technology), Ong-art Klampaiboon (Prime Minister's Office), Chaovarat Chanweerakul (Interior) and Sophon Saram Transport).

The deputy minister is Suphachai Phosu (Agriculture). (In Thai government system, a deputy minister is also a Cabinet member)

The debate will touch on several issues including economic, corruption, Thai-Cambodian border dispute, handling of Red Shirts dispersal in May last year and palm oil shortage.

The House will examine the motion within seven days before forwarding it to the government in 15 days for consideration on whether to accept the challenge.
