Qatar Celebrates Arab Water Day Tomorrow
Doha, March 02 (QNA) - HE Minister of Energy and Industry Dr. Mohammed bin Saleh Al-Sada has underlined that within the Arab common work, the State of Qatar celebrates Arab Water Day (AWD) on the 3rd of March. It marks Qatar consideration of the importance of water as a main element in Arab water security as a national comprehensive concept where all development plans should integrate in order to achieve water, food, and health for all Arab countries.
The State of Qatar under the leadership of HH Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani ,the Emir of Qatar stresses the importance of achieving the Arab water security, maintain Arab water rights, and meeting challenges. It participated in setting and activating the Arab water security strategy to meet the challenges and the future requirements of the sustainable development. It should enable the Arab states to optimally use water resources to meet the risks including desertification. The State of Qatar calls for a unified Arab vision and the activation of the instructive initiatives.
The State of Qatar welcomes experience exchange in the field of water desalination technology. It has become a destination for Arab delegations to get acquainted with its experience in this field. It encourages researches and investments in water projects to maintain water resources, get untraditional resources, and achieve the optimal use and management of water resources.
KAHRAMAA implements projects for the development and upgrade of water networks for strategies to be aligned with Qatar National Vision goals and aspirations in the strategic plans.
The provision of safe and continuous water supplies is one of KAHRAMAA objectives. It continuously endeavors to provide high quality water supplies to its customers as per the highest local and international standards; as it applies strict control programs. KAHRAMAA managed to expand water pumping. Water security is one of KAHRAMAA main current concerns. It seeks to secure Qatar needs of water for seven days by the construction of giant reservoirs. KAHRAMAA also met the increasing demand for water estimated at 12% in 2010 where various production facilities have been commissioned as well.
Departments considers environment and safety in all plans as per KAHRAMAA third objectives reads "Comply with local and international health, safety, and environmental standards"
Here I d like to hail KAHRAMAA efforts in the field of water conservation as it became a national issue. It has a great role to play in development within the global warming, lake of water, and other political and regional conflict on water resources.
Water is the great concern of the Arab countries. Within these circumstances especially the lake of water the Arab countries suffer, we have to optimally use water resources and observe water conservation. I ask all water users to do their best for water conservation by deeply rooting the culture of water conservation in our children for this valuable resource to last.
On an address on the same occasion ,KAHRAMAA President Eng. Essa bin Hilal Al-Kuwari, said that Water is an essential element in development as it plays a vital role in all social, economic, economic, industrial, and developmental projects. All countries endeavor to provide water continuously from all available sources in order to meet the increasing demand for water.

KAHRAMAA was highly interested in the development of our water resources and potentials by adopting plans and programs for the development and upgrade of water networks. KAHRAMAA managed to meet the increasing demand for water during peak times in spite of the increasing number of customers. Recent statistics showed that KAHRAMAA serves 210.000 customer at an increase of 14% compared with the end of 2009.
KAHRAMAA has projects for the expansion of water networks to cope with the urban expansion. It works to provide the new areas with potable water through water networks implemented as per the highest international technical standards.
Considering the strategic water security, KAHRAMAA has set plans meant to ensure water supply during emergency cases. KAHRAMAA has also a plan, in cooperation with the Ministry of Environment and Qatar food security program, to study the feasibility of groundwater basin feed by desalinated water injection to meet water needs for long period.
KAHRAMAA endeavors to reduce water loss. It has a project for the replacement of old pipelines. It also has a study conducted with an international experience houses specialized in this field. Water supplies are subject to daily tests in KAHRAMAA highly equipped laboratory to ensure the safety of water provided to customers and its compliance with the international standards.
On the occasion of Arab Water Day, I hope all nationals and expatriates apply water conservation to reduce water misuse in order to maintain water for the coming generations.
