Gulf Committee for Organ Transplants Recommends Setting Up Support Network

Doha, March 05 (QNA) -The GCC Organ Transplant Committee has recommended the establishment of a network for transplant coordinators in GCC states and the provision of technical and scientific support to local programmes to achieve self-sufficiency and to provide organs to all patients suffering from kidney failure.
At the conclusion of a meeting held in Doha, the Committee agreed, the Committee agreed to study the activation and development of organ transplant programmes in all GCC states and entrusted representatives of United Arab Emirates and Oman to conduct a research proposal on renal failure in the GCC States.
The participants also agreed that the representative of the State of Qatar in the Committee is to review the Committee's media plan while taking into account the changes, progress and development in the means of communication, media and social networks to use them in drawing up the new plan which is to be submitted to the Executive Council of the GCC Health Ministers to study it and propose ways of funding.
The conferees recommended the addition of the phrase (the desire to donate organs) on the driving license and identification cards, as well as the coordination in this matter with the competent authorities of GCC interior ministries.
Among the Committee's recommendations was the formulation of mechanism to implement the resolution issued by the Council of Ministers in Saudi Arabia on organ transplants for patients other GCC countries by 10 percent of organ transplant operations in the Kingdom.
The Committee also agreed to prepare a booklet on the achievements of organ transplant in the Gulf Cooperation Council to include topics covering the history of organ transplant and achievements, constraints and proposals for promoting the organ transplant programme.
Participants have discussed over two days many topics including progress in GCC countries in the implementation of the Committee members' function regarding to implement the GCC Organ Transplant Strategic Plan.
