Municipal Elections Applications Will Be Accepted Up To March 10
Doha, March 06 (QNA) - Applications of candidates contesting the fourth Central Municipal Council (CMC) elections will be accepted up to March 10.
Candidates fulfilling the qualifications for contesting the CMC elections should visit the concerned constituency headquarters to fill up the prescribed form in the presence of the election committee, the Ministry of Interior (MoI) said today in a media statement.
The director of Strategic Planning Department and member of Supervising Committee for CMC elections Lt. Col. Abdul Rahman said a total of 66 candidates, including three women, have registered in the 29 constituencies for the CMC elections as of March 3.
At the end of the deadline to register, a primary list of candidates will be prepared and announced on March 15, he said.
Applications to the Appeals and Grievances Committee will be accepted starting from March 15 up to March 23.
Member of 7th Constituency Committee Lt. Col. Sultan Mubarak Al Khulaifi, said that the MoI has made available all the facilities for constituency committees whose role is to verify the identity of the applicant and adjudge whether he/she fulfils the conditions to contest the CMC elections.
"He shall be a Qatari citizen of Qatari origin or one who has obtained Qatari citizenship provided that he shall be a descendant of a person born in Qatar. He should be at least 30 years old and literate," said Al Khulaifi."
The candidate should not have been convicted of a crime concerning moral turpitude or dishonesty. As well he shall be a voter of the same constituency and he shall not be employed in Qatar Police and Qatar Armed Forces or in any other military service," he added.
