Panel Reschedules Pan Arab Games To December 9-23

Doha, March 06 (QNA) - The 12th edition of Pan Arab Games 2011 to be hosted by Doha has been rescheduled to December 9 to 23 from November 11 to 25.
Members of Union of Arab National Olympic Committees (UANOC) approved and announced the new schedule following its 15th General Assembly meeting held in Jeddah from March 4 to 6, the Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) said.
The Secretary General of (QOC) Sheikh Saoud bin Abdulrahman Al Thani who led the delegation to Jeddah said the dates were rescheduled due to logistics problems with the programmes of FIFA and the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
The clash of preliminary qualification rounds for FIFA World Cup 2014 in Brazil and the football qualification matches for 2012 Olympics in London necessitated the change.
Sheikh Saoud also congratulated HRH Prince Nawaf bin Faisal bin Fahd bin Abdulaziz for being selected as president of the UANOC succeeding HRH Prince Sultan bin Fahad bin Abdulaziz Al Saud during the meeting in Jeddah.
He also appreciated HRH Prince Sultan bin Fahd bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud for promoting and developing the sports movement in Arab region as well as globally.
Around 12,000 participants including 3,000 administrators, team officials, technical staff members and journalists with 8,000 athletes from different Arab countries are expected to compete in 34 events during the Pan Arab Games, including four games for Paralympics teams, the QOC said.
