HEC Paris in Qatar & Total launch new Chair for the Energy Industry

Doha, March 07 (QNA) -Europe s leading business school, HEC Paris, along with the Qatar Foundation & The global energy company Total, yesterday announced the establishment of a new Chair to focus on Energy and Management.
Aimed at integrating the future challenges of the energy industry with expertise in management practice and strategy, the Total Chair in Energy and Management will focus on education, training and applied research specific to the challenges facing the global energy industry.
The ultimate aim is to make significant contributions to improved energy business practices on a global scale, with a strong focus on Qatar and the wider Gulf region.
H.E. Dr Abdulla bin Ali Al-Thani, Vice President for Education at Qatar Foundation, applauded the partnership with HEC by saying: "I am very pleased that two of Qatar Foundation s strategic partners have created a chair in energy management. Total is an anchor tenant of Qatar Science & Technology Park, while HEC Paris is a new educational partner.
This is very much in line with our philosophy of encouraging collaboration between world-class players in areas of significance for our future development. Through the programs of HEC Qatar, industrial leaders will benefit greatly from this development and will be better equipped to build our region s knowledge-based economy." Total Vice-President of Human Resources, Mr. Francois Viaud, says: "As a partner dedicated to sustainable growth in Qatar and the region, we are proud to announce this new commitment at global scale here in Doha. We highly value the strength of the focus given to Education by Qatar Foundation under the leadership of HH Sheikha Mozah Bint Nasser and we feel it is important to contribute in a larger way in this case by creating and diffusing new knowledge in the energy field. By establishing this chair, Total is blending two critical ingredients: its expertise in the energy industry with HEC Paris expertise in management to create a new body of knowledge which will be of great benefit to current and future stakeholders." The announcement of the Chair coincides with HEC Paris recent partnership with Qatar Foundation and the subsequent launch of the school s management education activities in Doha.
HEC Paris in Qatar, a founding member of Qatar Foundation s Management, Education and Research Center (MERC), is now offering a range of management education programs in Qatar and the larger Gulf region, targeting experienced managers and executives.
This new initiative has already resulted in the successful launch of Qatar s first ever Executive MBA in February 2011, with 32 senior managers of 9 different nationalities taking part in an internationally-accredited degree program. HEC EMBA participants stand to gain a competitive edge not only through the deep international exposure the program offers, but also by building a diverse network that facilities cross-industry learning.
HEC Paris Dean, Bernard Ramanantsoa says, "This year HEC is celebrating its 130th anniversary. This history of success is deeply rooted in our ability to help invent the future of business. Our mission in Qatar is to help improve corporate competitiveness and develop innovative research of relevance to the region and its industries. Both our partnership with QF and the Chair with Total help achieve this mission."
