Third Doha Energy Forum Begins

Doha, March 08 (QNA) - In the presence of HE Minister of Energy and Industry Dr Mohammed bin Saleh Al Sada, the third Doha energy forum was opened today at the Texas A & M University in the Education City.
A number of questions were raised during today's panel discussion on Qatar's industry and energy sector as well as the global developments in this sector and the outlook of energy, particularly in light of the increasing consumption.
Speaking at a panel discussion, HE Al Sada underlined the developments in the Qatari oil and gas industry, pointing out the achievements made by Qatar in the industry were the result of the well-advanced energy sector infrastructure.
He stressed that the energy sector played an important role in the local economic growth and social development, adding that oil revenues were used to establish training and education centers to help in attaining sustainable development.
Qatar also used advanced technology to increase production, he added, highlighting that Qatar's LNG production reached 77 million metric tons per year last year.
His Excellency also made a reference to the partnerships Qatar have with international energy companies to develop this industry and to take advantage of their experience.
He pointed to the success Qatar has accomplished with regard to setting up gas supply networks, including the "Dolphin" project to supply natural gas to the United Arab Emirates, pointing out that Qatar has plans to set up a number of pilot projects to supply gas to the Gulf States and Middle East countries.
Al Sada praised the achievements made by Qatar Petroleum, and added that Qatar is also paying attention to environment when considering any oil and gas projects, especially in light of global concern with climate change.
