Queen of the Netherlands Visits Souq Waqif
Doha, March 09 (QNA) - HM Queen Beatrix of the Kingdom of the Netherlands and her accompanying delegation visited this evening Souq Waqif as part of her the current visit to Qatar.
HM the Queen toured the corridors of different market and was briefed on its heritage features and visited some of the traditional antiques, collections, gifts and perfumes.
She also got acquainted about shops of historic photographs, traditional textile industry, popular tools required for fishing, and hunting and tents.
Queen Beatrix was briefed as well on the industry of fishing nets, models of traditional Gulf boats . She tasted Arabic coffee and tasted some of the popular food.
On the occasion of the visit, HM the Queen was gifted a model of the ship / Sanbouk / used by the Qatari ancestors in diving for pearl-diving, fishing, and a pearl necklace.
It is worth mentioning that Souq Waqif one of the most famous ancient markets not only in Qatar but in the whole region . It has been re-organized in a modern style while retaining its old architectural design and has turned after its restoration and renovations made it a tourist, commercial and cultural attraction witnessing the history and culture of the State
