17th International DALM Symposium on Diabetes, Obesity, and the Metabolic Syndrome Kicks Off in Doha


Doha, March 14 (QNA) - 17th International DALM Symposium on Diabetes, Obesity, and the Metabolic Syndrome opened here this evening at the Ritz Carlton Hotel.
HE Minister of Public Health and Secretary General of the Supreme Council of Health (SCH) Abdullah bin Khalid al Qahtani attended the opening session of the Symposium.
The purpose of the three -day Symposium is to update physicians, particularly those practicing in the Middle East, on recent research regarding the prevention and pharmacological treatment of diabetes, obesity, and related cardiometabolic disorders.
For the first time since its inception in 1960, the conference to be held in Doha, instead of in the United States or Italy.
It is organized by QF, Weill Cornell Medical College, Qatar in association with the Fondazione Giovanni Lorenzini Medical Science Foundation.
In an opening speech of the conference, Dr. Javed Sheikh Dean of Weill Cornell Medical College in Qatar said the medical event is an opportunity to discuss best practices and issues related to health and welfare of patients in Qatar and around the world.
He added that the Qatar Foundation carries an important message to make Qatar a leader in the field of scientific research, referring to the Dalm international conference in Doha as represents a significant milestone on this road.
He noted that Weill Cornell Qatar aspires to contribute to research that would have role in achieving the vision of Qatar, focusing on leading scientists in social development and education fields as well as projects that protect the environment such as clean water and others . (QNA(
