Minister of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs Inaugurates Islamic Tent
Doha , March 20 (QNA) - HE Minister of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs Ghaith bin Mubarak Al Kuwari inaugurated (The Islamic Tent) Sunday afternoon which takes place at the same time of the 28th edition of sheikh Jasim Bin Mohammed Al-Thani's competition of memorizing the Holy Quran.
A number of the authorities of Al Awqaf and Islamic Affairs ministry will participate in the competition as well as other governmental and civil organizations.
The Minister expressed his happiness regarding the number of participants in the tent. The tent is located next to Moza Bent Mohammed's Quran Center in Al Waab area. The tent will include a theater to entertain children participating in the competition in addition to educational activities.
The minister said that there is a diversity educational and social activities that reflects the Qatari communities responsiveness to the competition. The minister added that Al-Quran is not just Ayat that are memorized but a way of life.
The Minister also said that Sheikh Jassim bin Mohammed Al-Thani's Quran competition is Qatar's recognition of the role the Qatari leader played as a Mufti and a judge in addition to the political role he played. He added that the ministry is considering moving the competition's date to December to be in the same month as Qatar's National Day which takes place on December 18.
Regarding the standards of the competition, the minister said that the level is improving year after another saying that it is now on par with international competition and, in some aspects, is of even higher standards. He added that the number of contestants WHO reached 1800 from 36 different nationalities makes the competition of international standards, paying tribute to the role played by the ministry's Holy Quran centers in developing the competition.
Meanwhile, males and females contesting in Sheikh Jassim's Quran competition began participating today. The competition requires memorizing chapter one up to chapter 25 of the Holy Quran. (END)
