Qatar s National Health Strategy to be Launched
Doha, April 02 (QNA) - Under the patronage of HH the Heir Apparent and President of Supreme Council of Health (SCH) Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, HH the Vice President of SCH Sheikha Moza bint Nasser will officially launch Qatar s National Health Strategy (2011 -2016) Sunday s evening.
The National Health Strategy 2011-2016 is one of 14 sector strategies under the Qatar National Vision 2030 s National Development Strategy, which was earlier this week launched by His Highness the Heir Apparent, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani on 28 March 2011.
HE the Minister of Health and Secretary General of the Supreme Council of Health Abdullah Khalid Al Qahtani said that Qatar's exceptionally rapid economic growth has contributed to impressive gains in social and human development and has stimulated numerous large-scale medical infrastructure and expansion projects.
"We are striving to provide world-class health services that are patient-centered to ensure that the health care needs of the country s diverse and rapidly growing population are met. Our integrated system of health is designed to meet the needs of existing and future generations, adding years of healthy life," HE Al Qahtani said.
"It is highly appropriate that we launch this strategy the week that World Health Day (7 April 2011) is celebrated around the world, particularly as this strategy has resulted from unprecedented collaboration and input from all health sector stakeholders in Qatar," he said.
The health strategy was the result of 6-months intensive consultation last year and was officially endorsed by the Board of the Supreme Council of Health in December 2010.
The National Health Strategy is intended to propel Qatar toward the health goals and objectives contained in the Qatar National Vision 2030, with seven goals that will achieve:
A comprehensive world-class healthcare system whose services are accessible to the whole population
An integrated system of healthcare offering high-quality services
Preventive healthcare, taking into account the differing needs of men, women, and children
A skilled national workforce capable of providing high-quality health services
A national health policy that sets and monitors standards
Effective and affordable services in accordance with the principle of partnership in bearing the costs of healthcare
High-caliber research directed at improving the effectiveness and quality of healthcare
Under the seven goals, the strategy has 35 projects which are aimed at shifting the balance of care towards preventive, community-based services, built on the foundation of a strong primary health care system. The projects revolve around integrated, patient-centered high quality services, which will dramatically improve healthcare services for Qatar citizens, residents and visitors.
HE Abdullah Khalid Al Qahtani said the National Health Strategy outlines the strategic directions and key initiatives that the health sector will take over the period covered by the strategy, under the leadership of the Supreme Council of Health.
"Successful implementation will require hard work and commitment from all stakeholders across the health sector, as well as intersectoral collaboration, to deliver positive outcomes for the health sector and the nation," he said.(QNA)
