All Medical Products of McNeil Company in Qatar Meet Specifications, SCH
Doha , April 04 (QNA) - The Supreme Council of Health (SCH) has said that Qatar did not register McNeil, an American subsidiary of Jonson & Jonson which caused controversy lately. The Council added that none of the company's products are available in the Qatari market.
The Council's Pharmacy and Drug Control department has assured all citizens that the available Johnson & Jonson products being circulated in Qatar are manufactured and imported from Europe, and not from the United States.
For her part, Director of Pharmacy & Drug Control Dr.Aisha Ibrahim Al-Ansari said that the recalled products were the ones produced in the United States only, adding that these products are not distributed in Qatar. She made clear that the McNeil products were not banned, but that some of them were recalled due to manufacturing deficiencies.
The Council said that all medical products currently available in the Qatari market do meet the specifications and are authorized for utilization.
McNeil is still the center of controversy in the US after it was pressured by the Food & Drug Administration back in late April 2010 to recall its products from the US markets. The company's statement said "McNeil Consumer Healthcare in consultation with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), is voluntarily recalling all lots that have not yet expired of certain over-the-counter (OTC) Children's and Infants' liquid products manufactured in the United States...distributed in the United States".
The company said that it took that decision because the products contained "a higher concentration of active ingredient than is specified; others may contain inactive ingredients that may not meet internal testing requirements; and others may contain tiny particles." US television network ABC reported that the products contained, so far, unidentified gram-negative bacteria. (QNA)
