Yemen's sovereign external debt edges up to USD6.2 bln in January

SANA'A, April 8 (Saba)- According to the Central Bank of Yemen, total external debt edged up by 4.4% year-on-year
(y/y) in January to USD6.2 billion.
Just under 83% of this amount represented highly concessional loan terms, including USD1.8 billion from so-called Paris Club countries and USD3.4 billion from multilateral
organisations like the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
The largest increase in debt was in this category (up 4.9% y/y), compared to a 1.7% y/y increase in non-concessional borrowing.
Saudi Arabia (USD373.9 million) and China (USD277.3 million) are Yemen's largest non-concessional lenders.
