Shammam Urges More Protection for Libyan People

Doha, April 13 (QNA) - Head of media relations of the Libyan Transitional National Council Dr Mahmoud Shammam has urged the first meeting of the Libya Contact Group in Doha, which will take place today, to come out with mechanisms that will provide more protection for the Libyan people as well as peace initiatives that consider the legitimate aspirations of the Libyan people for freedom, dignity and removal of the current regime.
In a press statement today Shammam said: "We feel that there is a slowdown and lag in the implementation of the UN resolution on the protection of civilians from attacks by the Gaddafi regime," calling on at the same time to arm the Libyan people to face the regime's military machine.
Regarding the Turkish initiative, Dr Shammam said that the council accepted most elements of the initiative, which he described as good, but asked for a clarification of the item relating to the aspirations of the Libyan people.
Meanwhile, he renewed the Council's refusal of the African Initiative, saying that it was written in Gaddafi's office. He called on the international community and Arab countries in particular to recognize the Transitional National Council as the sole representative of the Libyan people.
He also called on the States that have declared the freezing of the assets of Gaddafi and his sons to find a specific mechanism allowing the use of these funds in the provision of food and medicine for the Libyan people. (QNA)
Hh Deputy Emir Meets Heads of Delegation of Political Contact Group on Libya

Doha, April 13 (QNA) - HH the Deputy Emir And Heir Apparent Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani met at the Ritz Carlton Hotel here on Wednesday Their Excellencies the heads of delegates of the first consultative meeting of the political Contact Group on Libya .
HH the Deputy Emir and Heir Apparent met with each of British Foreign Secretary Willian Hague , French Foreign Minister Alain Jupe , Italian Foreign Minister Fanco Frattini and US State Undersecretary for Political Affairs, William J. Burns .
Talks during these meetings dealt with ties of cooperation between Qatar and each of their respective countries and means of enhancing them . A set of other topics tabled on the agenda of the aforesaid meeting was also taken up.
The encounters were attended by HE Prime Minister And Foreign Minister Sheikh Hamad Bin Jassim Bin Jabor Al Thani .
