SCH : Qatar Not Importing Milk & Its Products from China
Doha, April 17 (QNA) -The Supreme Council of Health (SCH) said Monday that the State of Qatar was not importing milk and its products from China, following the news reports about two poisoned milk farms with nitrate in China ,causing death of three people and poisoning 35 others.
Dr. Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Jassim Al Thani, Director of the Department of Public Health of the Supreme Health Council (SCH) said that the milk available in the Qatari markets is completely safe for human consumption and that Qatar was not importing milk or its products from China.
He stressed that the competent organs of the Supreme Council for the health were working to ensure that all foodstuff imported by the State are meeting the adopted standards of quality and safety.
Media reports recently said a number of persons were poisoned in China, some of them died, mostly children under the age of 14 years as a result of poisoning by nitrates (a chemical material used to treat meat) after having had contaminated milk products from farms in the province of Gansu in northwest China.(QNA)
