Mediation on Darfur / Statement


Doha, April 19 (QNA) - H.E. Mr. Ahmed Bin Abdullah Al-Mahmoud, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs of the State of Qatar, and H.E. Mr. Djibrill Bassole, the AU-UN Joint Chief Mediator, issued the following statement :-
On 18 April 2011, the Mediation sent official letters to the heads of delegations participating in the Darfur peace process in Doha, namely: Dr. Amin Hassan Omer, Head of the Government of Sudan Delegation; Dr. Eltigani Seisi Mohamed Ateem, Chairman of the Liberation and Justice Movement (LJM); Mr. Mohammed Bahar Ali Hamadain Vice President of the Justice and Equality Movement (JEM), in which it requested the Parties to expedite and conclude the on-going consultations with a view to reaching agreement amongst themselves on the issues under discussion.
The Mediation further explained that it will submit to the Parties on 27 April 2011 a draft text of a peace document for their final consideration.
The document will comprise chapters on: Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms; Power Sharing and Administrative Status of Darfur; Wealth Sharing; Compensation, Return of IDPS and Refugees; Justice and Reconciliation; Permanent Ceasefire and Final Security Arrangements; Implementation Modalities and Mechanisms and Darfur-Darfur Dialogue and Consultation.
The all Darfur stakeholders conference will be convened in Doha from 18-23 May 2011, to adopt the peace document, instead of the previously announced date of 28 April for technical and logistic reasons beyond the Mediation's control, pertaining to the preparatory arrangements necessary for the convening of the conference.(QNA)
