Qatar Calls for Adopting National Policies for Improving the Elderly Life
New York, April 19 (QNA) - The State of Qatar has taken several steps to promote the rights of the elderly at the national level to highlight the importance of the elderly as one of the important categories covered by the development process, said Dr. Moza Nasser al Kaabi, Deputy President of the Board of Directors of Qatar Foundation for the Care of the elderly.
Addressing here the first regular session of the "Open-ended Working Group on Ageing", Dr. Al Kaabi stressed the need to focus on social and economic challenges posed by aging and called for giving priority to the formulation of national policies aimed at improving the quality of life for the elderly in order to enable them to continue their activities by provision of necessary health care and social security so as to realize a society for all ages, in addition to the charters and legislation of the regional and global dimension that paid attention to the elderly as well as the various divine religions.
Dr Al Kaabi said the State of Qatar under the wise leadership of HH the Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani was continuously seeking to inculcate the values ??of social justice which were reflected in the provisions of the Qatari Constitution regarding the care for the elderly where it is seeking to establish the rules and principles of the social and political, economic system and cultural guarantees for citizens of various ages by ensuring health, life tranquility, education, security and well-being.
She added that the Qatari legislations have paid attention to this category through the issuance laws that guarantee protection for them such social security law , which identified several categories of beneficiaries of social security, including the elderly, who exceeded the sixty-year retirement and pensions law, which guarantees the rights to pensions for the elderly in addition to the issuance of the law of people with special needs.
Dr. Al Kaabi noted that in addition to these legislations the government institutions and civil society institutions have a prominent role through the promotion of policies and programs on aging in plans and programs of national development where the Supreme Council for Family Affairs (SCFA) was established under an Emiri decision to strengthen the role of family in the community. The SCFA since its establishment has cared for the elderly through drawing up policies and plans at the national level to provide social protection and care for them, Dr Moza Al Kaabi underlined.(QNA)
