Deputy Premier Inaugurates Advanced Technology and Research Centre at QSTP

Doha, April 19 (QNA) - HE the Deputy Premier and Chairman of the Emiri Diwan Abdullah bin Hamad Al Attiyah Inaugurated this evening the Advanced Technology and Research Centre at Qatar Science and Technology Park (QSTP)
In a press statement following the opening of the Centre, HE Al Attiyah praised the wise policy pursued by the State of Qatar under the leadership of HH the Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, which proved its remarkable merits resulting in establishing large projects like this center and other projects hosted at QSTP which have very positive effect and serve Qatar and the region generally.
HE Al Attiayh stressed that the State of Qatar through investing in science and technology carried out by the Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development (QF) under the leadership of HH Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, QSTP and the Research Centre would enhance its progress after the depletion of oil and gas.
He said that the State intends to adopt the knowledge-based economy so as not to depend entirely on oil and gas but the diversify its resources and looking at how to become a State of services, and capital of education in Middle East, as well as a hub for technology and research in the field of health and financial services.
HE Al Attiyah pointed out that GE has begun focusing on Qatar through the inauguration of the Centre today the addition to the centers already existing, including the maintenance center for the oil and gas, located in Ras Laffan, as well as research carried out in the field of medical equipment and environmental.
He added that the research center will attract more than 500 people for the purposes of training annually from three continents, a figure likely to rise in the future, adding the center serves not only Qatar, but Africa, Asia and Europe at the same time.
In his key note speech, Dr. Tidu Maini , said : We are delighted that GE is opening a major research and training centre , the only one of its type outside the US ,which encompass work from the mightiest engines that power super jumpo aircrafts to the state of the art diagnostic in cancer , a true homage and commitment to the power of research and technology by GE in Qatar . This yet another example of how under the leadership of HH Sheikha Moza bint Nasser , with the support of leading Qatari Government figure , QSTP is able to work with global cooperation to create innovative partnerships in Qatar that support advanced technology and research.
The 20,000 sq m Advanced Technology and Research Centre focuses on applied research and knowledge transfer in key areas that drive Qatar's social and economic growth including aviation , oil and gas and health care . It will also deliver process and product enhancement for GE customers across the region. (QNA)
