US VICE PRESIDENT TO VISIT BAKU
Baku, 31 AUGUST,(AzerTAj)US Vice President Dick Cheney will arrive in Azerbaijan early in September as part of a trip that will also take him to Georgia, Ukraine and Italy.
Cheney`s visit will take place amid recent tense situation in the South Caucasus, especially in Georgia.
“The president felt it was important to have the vice president consult with allies
in the region on our common security interests," a White House spokesman said.
During the US Vice President`s talk with Azerbaijan`s President Ilham Aliyev, they
will discuss regional security and a wide range of other issues, including energy
security and Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
Dick Cheney also will reiterate the United States` gratitude to Azerbaijan for
contributing to peacekeeping operations in Iraq and Afghanistan.
