Katara Village To Stage Earth Day Qatar Events
Doha, April 20 (QNA) - Earth Day Qatar 2011events under the theme Conserve, Connect, Act open here Thursday at the Katara Cultural Village.
The programmes are organised by Qatar Cool in partnership with the Earth Day Network and Qatar Foundation International.
The day-long event will feature prominent speakers, discussions and workshops emphasizing the global nature of climate change and the need to work together, across cultures, to develop solutions to environmental problems.
Students from independent schools in Qatar as well as students visiting from cities across the United States, India and Morocco will discuss water conservation and related issues in a telepresence conference.
A wide range of local and international QFI partners will be conducting environmental workshops. These partners include: Ocean for Life, Green Gulf, Qatar Cool, Earth Day Network, Cisco, Ocean Future s Society, and Qatar Environment and Energy Research Institute.
The workshop on Environment Protection will see students discuss the global impact of greenhouse gases and climate change. Students will mull ways to increase awareness on these issues and how community members can change behaviour to conserve the environment.
Part two of this workshop will focus on sustainability where students would explore the relationship between climate change, development and economic growth.
The workshop on GreenGulf will focus on solar energy, power generation, technology and its role in the FIFA World Cup to be hosted by Qatar in 2022.
As part of civic responsibility, American and Qatari students will participate in a beach cleanup activity at SeaLine. (QNA)
