VP : ECONOMIC, POLITICAL JUSTICE KEY TO MAINTAINING NKRI INTEGRITY

Jakarta, Sept 1 (ANTARA) - Economic and political justice is the key to maintaining the Unitary State of the Indonesian Republic (NKRI)'s integrity, Vice President Jusuf Kalla said here on Monday.
"It is finished. No more need to talk about complicated matters, but we can maintain the NKRI'a integrity through economic and political justice," Kalla said at the opening of the 41st regular course of the National Resilience Institute (Lemhanas).
The vice president said the Unitary State of the Indonesian Republic could no longer be a topic of debate. But he wondered why in Indonesia'a political history, governments were rarely overthrown by political crisis and more often by economic distress.
Kalla gave an example that both President Soekarno and President Soeharto were dethroned because of economic crisis. But he added that nothing could stand by itself, and therefore political, economic, and social matters were interrelated.
"Nothing can stand by itself and therefore everything should be developed together," the vice president said.
He added that the political system could work if it was supported by a good economic and social system.
"Therefore, our task is to maintain the dynamism of national stability," Kalla said.
According to him, the dynamism of national stability was important in the efforts to develop the nation, and if the national economy was good, the political system would be easier but it should not be influenced by economic matters.
"Look at the House of Representatives (DPR). There , economics influence politics so that even to make a law, legislators use money. That is why many of the lawmakers at present have a problem with the Corruption Eradication Commission," Kalla said.
Therefore, he added that to maintain political stability, political activities should be reduced by making the general election simple, efficient and effective.
