Yemen's agricultural crops production ups to 5 mln tons in 2010
SANA'A (Saba) - Yemen's production of various food crops has raised to around 5.8 million tons last
year with an increase of over 500,000 tons in 2009.
An agricultural statistics data showed that the cultivated area with food crops - cereals, vegetables, fruits, legumes, cash crops and others - has remarkably expanded up
to 1,579,855 hectares in 2010 compared to 1,306,967 hectares in 2009.
The feed crop was ranked first last year in terms of production with about 2.2 million tons, followed by vegetables with 1.2 million tons, fruit (1.01 million tons) and
cereals (1 million tons), according to the data.
The cultivated area of the cereals was the largest among other crops amounting to 927,303 hectares in 2010, followed by feed crops with 166,034 hectares.
