Japan seeks peaceful resolution of Thai, Cambodia border clashes

TOKYO, April 26 Kyodo -
Japan on Tuesday called for a peaceful resolution of clashes between Thai and Cambodian troops along the two countries' disputed border through dialogue.
Foreign Press Secretary Satoru Sato said in a statement that Tokyo is concerned about the renewed fighting and strongly hopes that the two countries will promptly settle the conflict by heeding mediation efforts by the 10-member Association of Southeast Asian Nations and its chair Indonesia.
Cambodian and Thai military forces have been engaged in clashes over a disputed 4.6 square kilometers of land near the Preah Vihear Temple, a World Heritage site.
But most of the clashes since Friday have taken place at the temples of Ta Moan and Ta Krabey in Cambodia, about 150 km west of Preah Vihear. The disputed temples are known as Ta Meun and Ta Kwai in Thailand.
