Qatar in GCC - Central Asia Transport Agreement

Doha, April 26 (QNA) - Qatar has signed an agreement with other founding members of the transit and transport corridor linking Central Asia and the Gulf region and Sea of Oman.
The agreement was signed in the capital of Turkmenistan, Ashgabat, between the founding countries, namely the State of Qatar, the Sultanate of Oman, the Islamic Republic of Iran, the Republic of Turkmenistan, and the Republic of Uzbekistan.
The agreement provides cooperation and facilitation of transport and transit of persons and goods as well as exports among the countries of Central Asia and countries of the Arabian Gulf and Oman Sea and South-West Asia and the Middle East through available transportation means including highways, railways and cargo ships across the seas.
The agreement aims to boost the trade and commercial cooperation among the signatories as well as the states which will join later.
It was signed by HE the Assistant Foreign Minister for Follow Up Affairs Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Rumaihi, on behalf of the government of the State of Qatar, and Minister Responsible for Foreign Affairs Yousef Bin Alawi Bin Abdullah, for the Sultanate of Oman, and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Rashid Mirdov, for Turkmenistan, and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ali Akbar Salehi, for Iran, and Foreign Minister Elyor Ganiev, for Uzbekistan.
HE Al Rumaihi told Qatar News Agency (QNA) that the next meeting of the founding members, and the Higher Committee and the Coordination Group will be held in Doha during this summer.
Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov received HE Al Rumaihi while on a visit to Turkmenistan. Al Rumaihi conveyed to the President the greetings of HH the Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani and the government of the State of Qatar.
For his part, the President of Turkmenistan entrusted the Assistant Foreign Minister for Follow Up Affairs to convey his compliments to HH the Emir and his wishes to the people of Qatar for further development and progress.
Al Rumaihi during the meeting thanked Turkmenistan President for the provided facilities to develop the mentioned agreement as well as putting it in the final form and congratulated him on successful Turkmen Racing Horse Festival that was organized over four days in Ashgabat
