University Presidents to Touch Down at QF Next Week

Doha, April 27 (QNA)- Presidents of some of the world s leading universities will be flying in to Doha next week to attend Qatar Foundation s fourth annual Senior Convocation.
The prestigious ceremony, which will be attended by Her Highness Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, will also see the overseas presidents of QF s elite international universities touch down in Qatar to celebrate the achievements of their graduating students.
Nearly 250 students will graduate this year the most in QF s history in subjects ranging from computer science to design, Islamic studies, engineering, international relations and medicine, a QF's press release said today.
Qatar Foundation currently has six strategically-selected international universities whose parent campuses are based in the USA, plus HEC Paris and the recently-announced University College London, in addition to its own home-grown Islamic studies center Qatar Faculty of Islamic Studies.
Currently expected to attend are: Cornell University s President, David J Skorton
Virginia Commonwealth University s President, Michael Rao Ph.D
Texas A&M University s President, Dr R Bowen Loftin
Carnegie Mellon University s President, Jared L. Cohon
Northwestern University s President Morton O. Schapiro is also expected to attend; NU-Q students will graduate in communications and journalism for the first time next year.
For his part, Carnegie Mellon President Jared L. Cohon said,''Senior Convocation brings Carnegie Mellon graduates together with the entire Education City community to celebrate graduation and the promise for the future that this milestone holds." "These graduates have achieved a great deal, but their hard work isn't finished - it's just beginning. I congratulate Qatar Foundation on another group of outstanding graduates ready and eager to do great things in Qatar and around the world," he added.
Meanwhile President of Virginia Commonwealth University Michael Rao said,''Convocation is a time to celebrate the academic success of all of our graduates and to look forward to their future achievements as they pursue careers around the world," said , . "My expectation is that they will well represent their universities and Education City as leaders in their chosen professions whose work greatly benefits the lives of people throughout the world."
HEC Paris, the latest university to begin offering courses at Qatar Foundation, launched its first international EMBA for senior executives in Qatar in February. University College London will shortly begin offering postgraduate qualifications in Museum Studies, Conservation and Islamic Archaeology so that Qatar will be able to rely on a body of graduates with the skills to curate its planned series of museums.
