Oppn fails to block luxury car tax
The opposition has failed in a bid to block the federal government's luxury car tax increase in the Senate after a coalition senator failed to show up to vote.
The bill looked set to be defeated after Family First Senator Steve Fielding sided with the coalition to block the bill's second reading.
But the vote was resolved in the government's favour, 34 to 33, after a coalition senator failed to make it to the chamber for the division.
After the vote, opposition frontbencher Eric Abetz said it was with some embarrassment he had to tell the chamber the vote did not reflect the will of the chamber.
