Qatar Foundation Celebrates Fourth Graduating Class of Education City Students


Doha, May 03 (QNA) - Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development celebrated the graduation of a total of 243 students graduated this year in subjects ranging from computer science to design, Islamic studies, engineering, international relations and medicine.
The number of graduating students per university is as follows: 49 from Virginia Commonwealth University, 31 from Weill Cornell Medical College; 60 from Texas A&M University; 44 from Carnegie Mellon University; 45 from Georgetown University School of Foreign Studies; and 14 from Qatar Faculty of Islamic Studies.
Northwestern University in Qatar (NU-Q) students will graduate in journalism and communications for the first time next year, with students from the latest Qatar Foundation universities to open - HEC Paris and University College London - to follow in due course.
The red carpet ceremony at Ceremonial Court was attended by approximately 3,500 guests, including friends and family of the students, as well as the Presidents of the parent overseas universities who flew in for the occasion.
Guests were entertained by a cadet choir from the Qatar Leadership Academy, who performed the Qatar National Anthem and the Education City Anthem alongside Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra.
Qatari PM Discusses Arab Issues With Sarkozy

Paris, May 03 (QNA) - HE the Prime Minister and Foreign Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim bin Jabor Al-Thani, said on Tuesday he discussed Qatar's relations with France during a meeting with the French President Nicolas Sarkozy in Paris, pointing out that those relations are strategic and distinctive.
He also noted that their talks focused on Libya and other issues on the Arab arena.
HE the Prime Minister and Foreign Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim bin Jabor Al Thani spoke at a news conference after his talks with Sarkozy.
On the Rome meeting on Wednesday of the International Contact Group on Libya and
whether there was any timetable to stop the military operations in Libya, he said "
I have only heard about such a timetable in the press.. I think there is a clear mission in this concern".
He added "we hope to resolve things more quickly to alleviate the suffering of the Libyan people .. and we wish that common sense and wisdom will prevail in the Libyan leadership, so that
this leadership reach at a courageous decision where the Libyan leader places the desire of the Libyan people above all other options".
Asked about the situation in Syria and the possible imposition of sanctions by Europe
and whether he discussed the issue with Sarkozy, HE the Prime Minister and Foreign Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim bin Jabor Al-Thani said " We hope the Syrian leadership under President Bashar al-Assad will find a Syrian solution to this issue and we hope that this solution will be found quickly".
"As you know we have special relations with Syria and the situation in Syria is important for the region , for Qatar and stability in the region. Therefore, we hope for a solution within the Syrian house, fulfilling the desire of the Syrian people,'' he said.
HE Sheikh Hamad Bin Jassim Bin Jabor Al-Thani said the situation in Libya is different from
that of Syria, voicing the belief that the situation in Syria was not in need of international interference.
"We still hope that the situation in Syria will be solved locally and in a way fulfilling the demands of the Syrian people, '' he emphasized.
He said he did not not support any foreign interference in Syria , expressing the hope for a speedy solution.
Referring to Yemen, HE the Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim bin Jabor Al-Thani said the GCC countries had exercised clear efforts and their proposal was presented to the Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh and to the opposition and the signing of the GCC initiative must not be a problem. " The party that wants to execute must sign, whether it is the president or the opposition," he said, adding it is time for implementing the initiative which was requested by the Yemenis. Any procrastination or delay makes the situation worse, he said.
HE the Prime Minister and Foreign Minister welcomed the inter-Palestinian conciliation , praising the role of Egypt in achieving it.
On the transfer of the political leadership of Hamas to Qatar, he said he only read that in newspapers. (QNA)
