MP: the call for regional defense system comprising Iran implies negative messages
Baghdad (NINA) - Mohammad Eqbal Al Saydali, MP from Wasat Alliance described the Iraqi Army Chief of Staff’s call for establishing a regional defense system comprising Iran as carrying negative messages.
He said in a press statement on Thursday "what prevent external interference are not defense systems, but political relations, Iraq has no political readiness to handle security in open frameworks with the neighboring countries. Linking the Iraqi security to the Iranian security needs reconsideration."
He added "any statement about the establishment of defense systems with Iran will give negative messages, and the establishment of any system of joint defense, not only with Iran, but also with any other country, will imply some sort of sensitivity in dealing with it, because Iraq has already experienced political and military rounds with them, therefore, to join defense systems is undesirable."
He pointed out to "the foreign interference is constant, what prevents these interventions are not defense systems, but political relations and the commitment of every state to respect the neighboring country, and it takes political effort, not security, to prevent external interference.”
