Enriching the Middle East - Economic Future Conference Opens Monday - by Jassim Al Hamadi
Doha, May 07 (QNA) - Enriching the Middle East - Economic Future Conference will be officially opened in Doha Monday.
HH the Heir Apparent Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani will address the opening of the three-days Conference, organized by the Permanent Organizing Committee for Conferences in Qatar Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Among the speakers in the first day, HE the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Hamad Bin Jassim Bin Jabor Al Thani as well as HRH Henri, Grand Duke of Luxembourg.
The first session of the conference will focus on the transformations in the Middle East. The session main speakers are the Prime Minister of Iraqi Kurdistan Dr. Barham Salih, Egyptian Deputy Prime Minister Yahya Al Jamal, Swedish Foreign Minister Carl Bildt, the Foreign Minister of Portugal Luis Amado and Rev. Jesse Jackson, Civil Rights Activist, founder of Rainbow/PUSH.
The Panelist in the second session titled "Art and Technology in the service of Development", will discuss cultural diplomacy and its importance in international relations, artistic creativity as an engine of social change and a tool to fight poverty, the media's role in the revolutions of the people and political change, contribution of art in the reconstruction of the affected areas, organization and political struggle over the web and technology as a tool for communication between people and the promotion of world peace.
The third session: "The Political Future of the Middle East" will try to answer many questions like, Has the reform process started in the region? What are the trends of democracy in the Middle East? What are the contributions of the West in promoting democracy? What are the mechanisms for reform? What is the role of regional blocs in the region in promoting reforms: (League of Arab States - African Union - Gulf Cooperation Council, OIC).
HE Qatar's Minister of Finance Yousef Hussain Kamal will open on Monday evening the "Enriching the Middle East's Economic Future" sessions. The first session theme will be "Economic Root Causes of Discontent". This panel will look at the economic challenges facing the Middle East, such as unemployment, demography, education, inflation (food & energy), and lack of infrastructure. Panelists will discuss how the region can work together to address these issues.
"Economy, Trade and Development", will be the second session for the Monday evening and the last one for the first day of the conference. This session will consider the contrast between great power economic strategies that are moving in independent directions, and middle powers seeking effective strategies to prosper in the post-crisis globalized confusion. Panelists will discuss the varying strategies of regional economies
