HE Advisory Council Speaker Hails Qatar Municipal Elections

Doha, May 10 (QNA) - HE Advisory Council Speaker Mohammed bin Mubarak Al Khulaifi stressed that the Central Municipal Council's election is a pioneering experience in the State of Qatar towards popular participation to select members of the Council.
In a statement to Qatar News Agency (QNA), Al Khulaifi said, on the occasion of holding the fourth session of the Central Municipal Council elections, "We believe that this experience serves as a building block of democracy which opened the way for women to participate alongside men as candidates and voters."
He also said "I was pleased to have seen the enthusiasm shown by the candidates to serve the citizens, as well as the citizens' enthusiasm and their interaction with the campaign, which was a source of strength to increase our confidence in the democratic path."
HE the Advisory Council Speaker, meanwhile, said "We will continue to cherish this experience which started in 1999 as a work, leading towards the political action to perpetuate the democratic approach under the wise leadership of HH the Emir of Qatar Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani."
On this occasion, Al Khulaifi also thanked the former members of the Central Municipal Council for their effort and achievements and wished success to the new members in serving their country and their fellow citizens.
