Human Development in GCC


Doha, May 11(QNA) - Workshop on Human Development approach and measurement for the GCC states held Wednesday in Doha recommended that to the GCC countries to develop a programme for joint development of statistical capacities among their stats.
At the outset of their three days meeting , the participants called to harmonize household surveys in term of methodologies and timing to improve comparability.
The gathering on subject of reducing discrepancies between national and international data call to enhance collaboration and cooperation between national organization that produce statistics and international organization mandated to standardize statistics at international level.
In this context they invited GCC statistical authorities to pro-actively contact mandated international agencies to ensure that the most accurate and recent data are available to them. They also called to review methodologies applied and recommended by UN agencies mandated to collect statistical data.
They also recommended to organize workshops and bilateral meetings with mandated agencies to understand the nature and reason for the discrepancies persist. They also recommended that the household surveys available to mandated international organizations to be included into existing international databases of household surveys.
The workshop underlined the important to develop capacities of national statistical agencies to produce and analyze human development indicators and indices .
The workshop organized by Qatar Statistics Authorizes(QSA) In collaboration with the Office of Human Development Reports of the United Nations in New York and the regional office of the UN Office in Abu Dhabi.
