Lee gives credentials to new ambassadors to China, Japan, U.N.
SEOUL, May 16 (Yonhap) -- President Lee Myung-bak gave credentials to South Korea's new ambassadors to China, Japan and the United Nations on Monday, asking them to exercise diplomacy that befits South Korea's national status, an official said.
"We have so much interests at stake in relations with China, Japan and the U.N. I hope you will do your best in carrying out duties," Lee said at a ceremony to confer credentials on Ambassador to China Lee Kyu-hyung, Ambassador to Japan Shin Kak-soo and Ambassador to the U.N. Kim Sook, according to presidential spokesman Hong Sang-pyo.
Lee said his meetings with foreign leaders have increasingly dealt with major global matters, which, he said, shows that South Korea's international status has risen and that the international community considers Seoul's views important.
"Ambassadors to major countries should exercise diplomacy befitting this nation's status," Lee told the envoys, according to the spokesman.
