FLOODS FORCE 17,352 TO EVACUATE TO EMERGENCY TENTS IN GORONTALO

Gorontalo, Sept. 6 (ANTARA) - Floods have forced a total of 17,352 people to evacuate themselves to emergency tents in Gorotalo city and Bone Bolango District, Gorontalo Province, northern Sulawesi Island.

The displaced persons comprised 16,569 adults, 111 babies, 369 children, 301 elderly people, and two pregnant women, according to data collected by the Gorontalo emergency mitigation post here on Saturday.

They now stay in 48 refugee camps set up by the local government as well as volunteers.

In Kota Selatan sub district, some 15 emergency camps have been set up.

Sudirman Pakaya of the emergency mitigation command post said that cooked food were provided for the flood victims. However, some refugees claimed that they did not get any food assistance since Friday.
Until Saturday, floods reaching a height of up to 1.5 meter still inundated a number of areas in Gorontalo province, such as in Limba B, Biwau, Biawao, Donggala, Limba U2, Moodu, Heledulaa Utara, Heledulaa Selatan, Ipilo, Bugis, Tenilo, Dembe Jaya II, Dembe Jaya, and Wongkaditi Timur.
