Iranian weightlifter seizes silver in Youth World Championship
Iran’s Alireza Kazeminejad claimed a silver medal in the 2nd Youth World Championship Peru 2011 on Sunday.
In +94kg category, Kazeminajad lifted 166kg in snatch, 201kg in clean and jerk and 367kg in total.
Kazeminejad had won a gold medal of the Youth Olympic Games (YOG) with a total of 351kg last year.
“I did my best to win gold but I could not accomplish that. I hope to set a new record in the Asian Championship which will be held in Thailand in the next four months,” Kazeminejad said.
Gor Minasyan, who had lost to Kazeminejad in Singapore, won the title lifting 174kg in snatch, 205kg in clean and jerk and 379kg in total.
And bronze medal went to Russian Zaurbek Naniev who lifted 163kg in snatch, 195kg in clean and jerk and 358kg in total.
Iran’s Miald Orangi had snatched a silver medal on Saturday in 77kg class.
At the end of the competitions, Russia won the championship with 593 points, followed by Colombia and China with 516 and 488 points respectively.
Some 370 lifters under 17-year-old from 36 countries took part in the Youth World Championship Peru 2011. The first edition was held in Chiang Mai, Thailand, with participation of 300 lifters.
