Japan apologizes to S. Korea for radioactive contamination
SEOUL, May 16 (Yonhap) -- Japan apologized to South Korea on Monday for radioactive contamination in the air and seawater caused by radioactive leakage at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant, Seoul's health ministry said.
According to the ministry, Seoul's health minister, Chin Soo-hee, met Japan's vice health minister, Kohei Otsuka, in Geneva earlier in the day on the sidelines of the World Health Organization (WHO) annual meeting.
During the meeting, Otsuka said the Japanese government apologizes to its neighboring countries for radioactive contamination of air and seawater, according to the ministry.
The nuclear plant in northeastern Japan was hit by a March 11 earthquake and tsunami and has released radioactive substances into the air and sea.
Minister Chin said during the meeting that the Japanese government should provide more information related to the nuclear crisis to South Korea and other neighboring countries.
