Qatar's Permanent Mission to be Elected President of UN General Assembly- for Local Press



Doha , May 16 (QNA) - HE ambassador Nasr Abdulaziz Al-Nasser, Permanent Mission of the State of Qatar to the United Nations , who is also the Endorsed Candidate by the Asian UN state members for the Presidency of the United Nations General Assembly in its sixty-sixth session, said on Monday that his endorsement proves the stature of the State of Qatar and its interaction on the global scene.
The Ambassador praised the wise leadership of the Qatari government led by HH the Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, HH Heir Apparent Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and HE Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim Al Thani.
Speaking to Qatar Foundation radio, HE Al-Nasser said that he is the endorsed candidate by the Group of Asian State Members of the United Nations. He added that he will be elected officially in mid-June as the President of the General Assembly in its 66th session. The Ambassador will then officially assume his year-long position on September 14.
On the role of the President of the General Assembly, HE the Qatari Ambassador said that he listened to the different problems of
the member states and then suggested an agenda to the member states. He expressed hope that the State of Qatar will be able to contribute even more on the global scale during his presidency.
On the steps that led to his endorsement, HE al-Nasser said that he fought a vicious battle with the current adviser of Nepal's Prime Minister in which he won a secret vote held by the Group of Asian State Members to the United Nations.
