Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union Denounces Israel's Massacres


Doha, May 16 (QNA) - The Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union (APU) has denounced the fatal massacres the Israeli occupation forces committed on Sunday against the peaceful demonstrations and marches which marched throughout Gaza Strip , The West Bank and the border areas and which claimed 15 martyrs and hundreds of others injured.
The APU, Qatar chairs its current session , underlined in a statement issued Monday, marking the Nakba Day Anniversary coincided yesterday, its abolute and full support to the struggle of the palestinian masses at home and abroad stressing meantime that stability in the middle east is linked to materializing the legitiamte rights and legal demands of the Palestinian people.
It called upon all arab peoples , arab governments and the arab organisations to expand their support rally around the Palestinian people to turn Nakba Day anniversary into victory and hailed the mass movements of the Palestinian people at home and abroad on the occasion and the Palestinian protesters who were killed by the israeli forces on Israel's borders with Lebanon and Syria's Golan Heights as well as in the Gaza Strip and the west bank marking Nakba Day.
"Their blood will not go to waste," said palestinian president mahmoud Abbas sasid in a televised address yesterday. "Their blood was spilled for the freedom of our Palestinian people and for its rights."
Abbas said the participation of a large number of people in the protests was proof that "right is stronger than time, and the will of people is stronger than the power of the oppressive forces and the occupiers."
On Sunday, two people were killed in a violent clash near Majdal Shams on the Syrian border as demonstrators breached the border fence. Between three and 10 people were killed during a demonstration in the village of Maroun a-Ras on the Israel-Lebanon border.
Across the West Bank, thousands of Palestinians took to the streets, waving flags and holding old keys to symbolize their dreams of reclaiming property they lost when Israel was created on May 15, 1948.
In the Gaza Strip, hundreds of Palestinians threw rocks at Israeli soldiers at the Erez border crossing. A number of Palestinians were wounded when IDF soldiers dispersed the crowd. On Sunday afternoon, IDF forces fired on a suspect planting an explosive device along the border in the northern Gaza Strip. A hit was identified, the IDF said.
Following Sunday's incidents, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that Israel was determined to defend itself and its sovereignty.
